COLLEGES LOSE SCHOLARSHIPS

May 6,2008


Seventeen Division I-A football programs face penalties for failing to graduate enough players, the NCAA announced Tuesday with the release of its Academic Progress Rates.

The NCAA notified schools of their individual APR scores and potential penalties last fall. Some applied their scholarship penalty for the 2007 season.
Orange Bowl champion Kansas and Washington State were the only programs from "Big Six" conferences to face penalties. Other schools facing penalties for football were Akron, UAB, Buffalo, Central Michigan...

WHERE THE GIRLS ARE

Finding players to play sports is becoming more and more intense. Take Florida, where over the past 10 years the number of high school girls playing sports has grown by nearly 55 percent. Interestingly, traditional girls’ sports like softball and basketball aren’t growing. Where are they going? Try flag football, lacrosse and water polo. Fasttrack Scouting is looking for high school journalism students and aspiring sports writers to be Campus Ambassadors and post articles and pictures on the Fasttrack web site.
