RECAP FROM EVENT
Fasttrack Scouting and Anthony Bowie teamed up labor day weekend (August 31--September 2, 2007)for the Anthony Bowie 1-3-5 Player Showcase featuring top talent from around the state. For those in attendance it was an interesting twist on last year's 3 on 3 tournament held at Dover Shores. This year the tournament included various camps and games designed for scouts and coaches to evaluate individual skill sets.
On Friday, athletes worked one on one with retired NBA star, Anthony Bowie competing in drills, learning tips from the former Magic player and playing one on one against their peers. Bowie showed students a preview of the personal training and basketball development techniques he offers athletes with his company, AB Sports.
On Saturday morning, the athletes worked with Velocity Sports Performance and completed the Nike SPARQ test which tested their endurance, strength, stamina and speed. They also had a chance to meet with Bob from MaxtheTest.com who taught them basic SAT,ACT and FCAT test taking skills and Fasttrack Scouting who discussed recruitment and the importance of developing a player package.
By afternoon the athletes were ready for the 3 on 3 games to begin. Players were paired up by the camp director to encourage kids to play with peers with different talent levels. 9th graders were paired up with sophomores, juniors and seniors. It provided a great opportunity for scouts and coaches to preview how these players play in different situations (good and bad). It also allowed younger players a chance to compete with more advanced players and learn from one another and work as a team.
On Sunday, the competition was FIERCE with more 3 on 3 games and 5 on 5 games. Players were again paired up with different age groups and many excelled under pressure. There were rumblings from scouts and coaches on the most impressive players. It was apparent by afternoon which players and teams would make it to the finals. At the close of the day, an All Star Game was held featuring some of the top talent although every coach making the decision said it was difficult to decide because there were so many talented players at this camp. Our only disappointment from the weekend is that we did not have enough girls to compete and are considering an all girls tournament separate from this event next year. If you would be interested in attending a girls only tournament, please email
